Most fabric shops in this trade buy a container, mark it up and hope it moves. We own the looms and the finishing, which is why a designer can call on a Tuesday about a colourway and have it running by the end of the week.
It also means the price you see is the price at the source, and the roll you reorder in six months is the same cloth, not a close match from a different mill.
